I asked if the gothic approach was a suitable model. This is an unclear question, I agree.

I meant that a straightforward translation of Robert Lagerström's text would not give the surgeon at Sabbatsberg an "eye of glass". However, in the context of the story, I rather like von Schreeb's gothic appearance. It fits well with "von Schreeb as a stranger in a white robe who wanted to stick a knife into Freddie."  In real life and in 'Freak' von Schreeb is "glasögonprydde".

All right, now I see  . That's an awful and, yes, rather gothic mistranslation.

However, I think the translation discussed on this forum is of the brief one appearing on the main page of the site. There are quite a few fanatics here, but I wonder if any of them would undertake the daunting task of translating "Freak" in its entirety.

No reason to translate a book when you can check out the film "Among the Elves" (En Släkting Till Älvorna) with The Man himself and his thoughts, all subtitled in English and with all the music, including original versions You can´t find anywhere else. Like, to mention a few,  Dead Eyes Open, an improvisation with Henryk Lipp on piano (I do not find the words, that song is just ... so much nothing is true and everything is possible), as well as John Dowland and Seventh Day - on screen the first (and only) take that was just breathtaking. It simply couldn´t get any better*. Then again, there is the unbeatable session withTom Benson, in his studio…Says a part in this case but how ever,  check  out  in late November 2007, a DVD should be available just a click away.

Also, I recall  a few words regarding "the films that have it all" on  http://www.gd.se/Article.jsp?article=109595  though only in swedish, for English reviews, read more on www.camera32.com. Maybe I will add a site for anecdotes and all the stories from and around the filmshooting, the film took actually a year to shoot, and a couple of years to prepare...and we still stay in touch.

* well, actually we took a take nr 2,  just for security reasons, like in case the lab would accidentally distroy the 1st roll of the film, the first take that was just breathtaking. This just quickly.
